My guardian angel

The other day, I was minding my own business in the backyard, sniffing the bushes near that far gate that Mommy and Daddy never check. Something smelled real good. I wasn't paying attention, but followed my nose. Then suddenly I found myself outside the yard, out on the street. Unsure what to do, I continued walking up the street. That's how Daddy usually walks me. I pretended he was with me, although he wasn't and I was a bit scared.

I made it up to the mail box.....Then I didn't know what to do. But a kind lady came, got me, put me in her car and drove me home. Grandpa, who was at home, was quite upset and distraught. Then Daddy came. I guess Grandpa called him that I ran away.

Mommy and Daddy keep pondering who it was who found me, managed to put me in her car, drove me home and walked me across the street to our yard gate. They asked the neighbors but it wasn't them. I want to tell them but I don't know how, since they apparently still haven't learned to speak Basset despite my 3 years of barking.

They say, it has to be someone I know and knows me, someone I trust, someone who managed to put me in the car (yeah, they're all stumped how was that accomplished), someone who knows where I live and to let me in through the side gate door.

They say it must have been my guardian angel.

For now, I'm keeping it a secret who it was.
